The MAT measures incoming air temperature for the ECM speed  The sensor should be located at the tip in the incoming air stream.

By using a 1992 and later MAT and relocating it in front of the throttle body the motor will be more responsive.

On TPI cars your factory IAT sensor gets heat soaked when used in the stock location. This gives the ECM a false air temp reading. Using the MAT relocation kit, the ECM gets a true temp reading of incoming air.
